match results 6th May

Hornsby One (A Grade)

Won against Gordon – 3-0

Hornsby Two (C Grade)

Lost to Warringah – 0-3

Hornsby Gold had another tough match this week. We started strong, and looked the upper team for the first 15 minutes, however we weren’t able to make anything of our opportunities. Then suddenly, Warringah became ferocious and fast in attack, and we were all out defence. Nat did fabulous in goal, saving us many times and the backs did excellently too, special mention to Amanda. We had a few great chances in attack, most arising from good passing and calling (kudos Sel + Katie), however we were not able to convert. The scoreboard read 3-0 at the end, however Gold will not be disheartened, we will come back next week even harder! To improve: marking, getting back in defence and not passing to the opposition!

Hornsby Three (D Grade)

Drew against Briars 1-1

Another close-matched and exciting game for Hornsby 3 this week against Briars, no goals from either side in the first half lead into an action packed second half with about equal time spent at each end of the field. First goal went to Hornsby off a short corner about 20 mins into the 2nd, with strong passing from the team and a quick sweep into the goal by Katherine. 5 minutes later Briars levelled the score which only led to heighten the action for the remaining 10 minutes, with no less than 8 short corners called, but the score remained set and the game closed with a draw, great game played by all with excellent teamwork!

Yours truly,
The Hornsby 3 Supporters Team (a.k.a. “Hornsby Four”).

match results 29th April & 2nd May (Masters)

Hornsby 1 – A Grade

Won 4-2 against Harbord

Hornsby 2 – C Grade

Lost 2-0 against Manly

Hornsby Gold had a tough match this weekend against Manly. The game was fairly even, with neither team having too many opportunities at the beginning of the game. As we got tired towards the end of the first half, we let it slip for 5 minutes and Manly scored. In the second half, despite Hornsby having more of the possession and more opportunities, we weren’t able to convert and once more let in another late goal. Some things to work on for the next game: calling, strong passing to Hornsby players and not giving up!

Hornsby 3 – D Grade

Lost 2-0 against Sydney Uni 7b

Hornsby Vets – Masters

Lost 1-0 against Mosman

Hornsby dominated for the first half, but the score remained nil all until an unfortunate short corner for Mosman in the second half resulted in an own-goal. Hornsby managed to keep them from scoring again, but couldn’t level the score. Props to Suzy who padded up for goalie!

Hornsby 1 (Reds) – A Grade

Lost to Mirrabooka (1-4)

Hornsby 1 (aka Red) officially welcomes to the team: Laura, Lu and Alice! The new additions have already displayed great skills on the field wearing Hornsby Club’s t-shirt.

Game 2 vs. Mirrabooka… what to say? We had a great start, scoring the first goal of the game. Reds ran and called at all times. It was a fast game; at times too fast and it seemed as if our opponents were playing with a few extra players! We made some good passes, shots to the goal and there were also a few short corners on our favour. I’m also proud to say that everyone played very well and put in their best effort.

There is a lot to work on, as always, but we are up for it.

Despite the result, being the second game in 1st Grade we gave a great fight and demonstrated that we are up to the challenge!

Keep it up guys! Let’s train, keep building a strong team and overall, HAVE FUN!

Hornsby 2 (Gold) – C Grade

Won against Northern Districts (3-2)

Our first win of the season. Our defense was solid and we were able to get the ball up to our forwards from the outset. Our forwards were dominating and held possession so we were able to stick to our game plan and passed the ball wide. Some great sprints, calls, and passes by everyone early on. April got our first 2 goals in the first half of the game after dominating her wing . North Districts also scored in the first half so we went to the break 2-1. Sel scored again the second half which turned out to be very handy since we ran out of puff and let a late goal in. Some great things to take away from the game and any weakness should lessen through the season (fitness!).

Hornsby 3 (Blue) – D Grade

Won against Sydney Uni (4-2)

Hornsby Vets – Masters

Drew against Manly (1-1)

A hard game, with the first goal going to Manly before Trishy flicked in a rebound to even the score. The game was cut short when a ball bounced off a tackle into the face of a Manly player, cutting her brow. An ambulance was called and the field cleared with some ten minutes to go. By agreement, the game was called at a 1-1 draw, and a friendly match ensued for the last ten minutes.

Hornsby 1 – A Grade

Drew 0-0 against Mosman.

Hornsby 2 – C Grade

Drew 2-2 against Tigers.

Together as a team for our first run of this season. We were without our fearless coach Barty (and our assistant coach Em) and missing a couple of vital players due to holidays and other various engagements. Julie Z made the trek over to Ryde to cheer us on and ended up picking up her stick in the first half and giving us a hand well needed hand with the subbing.

We played quite a strong attacking game in the first half with Lisa putting the ball into the back of the net in good time. Ange showed us that she’s certainly not lost any hockey skill since recently becoming a mummy to our newest supporter baby Penny.

We played strong in the defence and held our ground to draw in our first game. We are definitely a team to watch out for in this competition!

I just wanted to officially welcome all the old team gold players and the new ones joining our ranks this year.

I’m really looking forward to captaining this years team, along with my vice Captain Suzy and coaches Barty and Em!

GO TEAM GOLD!!!!!!!!!

Hornsby 3 – D Grade

A cool 4:30pm game at Pennant Hills kicked off the season for Hornsby 3 this year, with two goals in the second half combined with great team work proving great promise for the 2012 season, despite a strong offensive from Northern Districts leading to a 9 – 2 result against Hornsby. Bring on the next game!!

Hornsby Veterans – Masters

Won 4-0 against Manly-Warringah

Grade A trial game against Northern Districts Grade A

On Sunday 1st April, Hornsby Grade A played a trial game against the Northern Districts Grade A team. The trial game was suggested by Northern Districts, and co-arranged by the Northern Districts club and Hornsby Club secretary Lara D.

Hornsby started off one player down, while Northern Districts were only able to field nine players and were playing without a goalie. Kris T soon turned up to play and Hornsby had the full team, while Northern Districts acquired two more players at half-time.

This was reflected in the score – a 9-2 win to Hornsby, with most goals of our goals scored in the first half, while Northern Districts started a comeback in the second. The game was not only a good chance to get out and stretch our legs, but also an opportunity to observe and strategise, with player and team weaknesses and opportunities identified for further training and development.

As a 10:30 game on a hot day in broad sunlight, it seemed like a very long game, especially lacking subs, but everyone bore up under the heat and the constant play. It seems fitness is going to be fairly key for the Grade A team, to add to solid skills and teamwork.

Thanks go to Sel C and Rochelle D for coming up from the Grade C to fill in.
